Custom Cut Cells

Everbright custom cut cells are made from a special wafering technology called String Ribbon. String Ribbon is way to make silicon wafers from which solar cells are made. In this process, two carbon strings, 80 mm apart, are pulled upwards through molten silicon. As the carbon strings (they have a much higher melting point than silicon) exit the silicon melt, through surface tension, a thin piece of silicon is formed between two strings which are continuously pulled upwards to form a ribbon, called silicon ribbon. This ribbon is continuously harvested and cut into 150 mm long sections by laser, forming the basis of 80 mm x 150 mm wafers. This process has minimal amount of silicon wastage which is common in other wafer technologies which rely on wire saw to slice blocks of ingots into thin wafers (kerf loss cause about 50% of the silicon loss). Therefore the cell has the smallest carbon footprint in the world, because pure silicon is very energy intensive to make in the first place.

We sell large number of string ribbon solar cells and are also a value added manufacturer. Our Fremont facility produces custom size Everbright solar cells through YAG laser cutting. Other than the standard 3"x6" Everbright solar cells size (80 mm x 150 mm, 0.5x Volt, 3.5 amps), pre-cut cell sizes come in 1x3, 2x3, 3x3, 2x2, 1x6, 2x6 inches, with amperage in 0.5, 1, 1.75, 0.8, 1, 2.4 amps respectively. All sizes are available with a traditional shiny solid blue-ish, or the smoother, non-shiny, multi crystalline, mosaic look finish.

Everbright solar cells are put in its own category compared to other kinds of solar cells, because Everbright Solar has the largest collection of different variations of string ribbon solar cells and custom sizes that Everbright produces as part of its value added manufacturing. Pretabbed and untabbed cells are available, and the untabbed cells come in 3x6, 2x6, 1x6, 3x3, 3x2, 3x1 sizes.

Everbright string ribbon solar cells come in two slightly different kinds: the multi crystalline look (mosaic blue) with a dull finish cells that are made in the USA (Referred to as 'Devens Cells'), and the German factory that produces the traditional solid blue with a shiny finish (referred to as 'Solid blue string ribbon cells'. The surface preserves some of the hidden surface wrinkles which are a characteristics of the natural wafer growth method. We are selling both kinds of these string ribbon cells. Both cells are made from the best quality silicon, with Devens cells showing slightly higher efficiency in many cases.
